Registration Reminder for Religious Education Classes

The CCD Team welcomes back all of our parish families. We would also like to remind you that registration for this year's program closes on August 29th. Classes start on September 7th.   Class books will be distributed by teachers on first day of class

Payment is due by August 31st in order to complete the registration process.

Class fees for the coming year will be HKD 500 per student, except First Holy Communion (YOB 2007) and Confirmation Classes (YOB 2001), for which the fees will be HKD 1,000.

The cheque should be payable to St. Anne’s Church and bear student names and dates of birth on the back.

Father John in New York

Father John has been asked to participate in the General Chapter of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers in New York. He will leave the parish on August 25th and will return on October 1st.  

Fr. Ed Phillips, Pastor Emeritus, will conduct all liturgical affairs during Fr. John's absence.

All business requiring the attention of a priest or the pastor should be directed to the Parish Office, from whence it will be redirected to a priest or church authority already on standby.

Parking Labels

St. Anne's has again been graciously given a very limited number of parking labels by St. Stephen's for Sunday morning parking during liturgies from September 2014 through June 2015. 

Interested parishioners should fill in an application in the Parish Office, with the understanding that not everyone may be accommodated.

Fund-Raising for Yunnan Earthquake Victims

As an expression of our solidarity with our brethren suffering from the earthquake that took place in Yunnan on August 3rd, Cardinal John Tong is appealing to the faithful to pray for them and the rescue workers. The Cardinal is also appealing for our generous support for the emergency relief efforts to be undertaken with the collaboration of Caritas - Hong Kong and the partnership of the Church in Mainland China. St. Anne’s will take up a second collection during Masses August 16th & 17th

Music Line-up for August

Dear Music Ministry members,

I hope you're all having a good summer.  Thanks to everyone who came to sing for the St. Anne's Feast Day bilingual mass at 10:30 last Sunday.  We had a such a good turn-out, with singers filling the choir area as well as the first three rows of pews. Also thanks to Agnes Lee and the choir members who sang for the broadcast mass that same morning at 8:45.

Music Ministry

Please join the choir for the St. Anne's Feast Day bilingual Mass on July 27th.  

Rehearsal will be at 9:00AM in the school music room, and the Mass will be at 10:30AM.

There will be Cantonese, English, and Tagalog music, and all members of the community are welcome to join the singing.

New Assignments for Bishops in Hong Kong

On Friday, July 11, 2014 it was announced simultaneously in Rome and in Hong Kong that:

  1. The Holy Father Pope Francis did not accept Cardinal Tong's resignation on his 75th birthday, and instead extended his term for 3 years as Bishop of Hong Kong.
  2. The Holy Father Pope Francis then further announced that he had named three new Auxiliary Bishops for Hong Kong: Fr. Michael Yeung, the current Vicar General of the Diocese; Fr. Stephen Lee of Opus Dei, and Fr. Joseph Ha of the Order of Friars Minor (Franciscans).

Let us join with these Bishops in heart and in prayer as they begin to shepherd us and the Diocese of Hong Kong.

YAC Yoga Program for Filipinas

The YAC Yoga Program for Filipinas begins in the Parish Hall on July 13th at 2:00PM. 

The program will continue every second Sunday of the month at 2:00PM and every fourth Sunday of the month at 4:00PM.

Hong Kong Catholic Marriage Advisory Council

This Sunday, July 6th, members of the Catholic Marriage Advisory Council will be at the back of the church to greet people, tell of their activities and services, and to elicit your support.

The Council has been instrumental in keeping many marriages healthy, together, and intact. They accomplish this through couple counseling, mediation counseling, pre-marriage education, marriage enrichment, family planning and sex therapy, and integrated family services.

Please be generous after the Masses this Sunday morning.

Music Ministry

As this is almost the end of the school year, I'd like to take this chance to thank all of the people who volunteered their service and talents in the music ministry this year.  In particular, thanks to the following musicians:
  • Stella Woo for helping choose the music line-ups.
  • Jennie Li, Hunmin Kim, Agnes Lee and Hubie Lem for their keyboard accompaniment.
  • Cantors/Soloists Pat Kozyra, Stella Woo, Jam Melendez-General, Lea Faigmani, David Helfer, and Hannah Kraebel.
  • Paul de Guzman and Bruce Ueland for their guitar accompaniment.
  • Amar Bhardwaj (trumpet) and Mary Byrne (violin) for their instrumental accompaniment.

Thanks to all the friends of the music ministry who help out on special occasions such as Christmas, Easter, and the May ceremonies.

And, last but not least, to all the regular members of the music ministry, especially the Legion of Maryand theFilipino choirs, who come to sing every week. You are the backbone of the music ministry - thank you all so much.

World Communication Day

The 48th World Communications Day will be celebrated on the Solemnity of the Ascension, 1 June 2014. The main theme is “Communication at the Service of an Authentic Culture of Encounter”.

In accordance with the usual practice, a second collection for the promotion of the media apostolate in our diocese is to be taken up at all public Masses the weekend of May 31 - June1.

Confirmation Students/Families can collect their doves from the CCD office on June 1st from 10:00AM to 11:00AM.

FHC Students/Families can collect their banners at the back of the church after both Masses on June 1st and June 8th.

The Church Beautification Ministry would like to thank those parents and grand parents of kids from the First Holy Communion Classes for helping to decorate the pews in preparation for the 2 FHC Ceremonies held on May 24 (Saturday). Your work beautified the church greatly.

We had a great response from the community for singers for the Confirmation and First Holy Communion ceremonies. In particular, thanks to Jennie Li, Bruce Ueland, Fernanda Da Rosa, Hannah Kraebel, Pat Kozyra, Naomi Chui, Emily Chang, Winnie Pun, Susan Madon, Maria Ronson, and Daisy Flores who gave us the music for the Confirmation ceremony.  And thanks to those who provided music for the First Holy Communion ceremonies - Bruce Ueland, Fernanda da Rosa, Daisy Flores, Angel Lee, Maureen Canham, Susan Madon, Emily Chang, Naomi Chui, Pat Kozyra and Maria Ronson. We are blessed to be a part of St. Anne's community and to be able to celebrate these special occasions with our young people.

Unfortunately, we have to say goodbye to a number of our members who will be moving - Bruce Ueland, Arcelli Carrera, and Merlina Lingcallo of the 8:45 choir, and Anne Shearer of the 11:15 choir. I'd like to thank them for all their contributions to the music ministry at St. Anne's and wish them and their families all the best. Also, thanks and good luck to David Helfer who will graduate from high school and will go off to college in the fall.

As requested by the Filipino choir, we will continue with music training at 3pm on June 1st in the music room for anyone who wishes to join. The same as last month, we will do rhythm drills, learn about music notation, and practice some harmonies.

The schedule for the 11:15 cantors will be June 1st - Jam, and June 8th – Lea.

Farewell Reception on Sunday, June 8th

The parish will sponsor a small reception after the 11:15AM Mass on Sunday, June 8th, to wish farewell to those persons and families who will be leaving leave our parish community before the start of the new school year in August, and to give those same persons an opportunity to bid their farewells to us.

Depending on weather, the reception will be held either in the schoolyard or the parish hall.
